Forestport was a big Adirondack wood gathering point in the canal and railroad days, hence its name where the logs were floated and loaded for the trip down the Black River. THey used to raft the logs from here. It is located on the north side of the Forestport Resevoir, or the dammed up part of the Black River. Downstream and south from there is Kayuta Lake.
