The Town of Warrensburg is the beginning of our NY 28, assuming you got off the Adirondack Northway I-87 at Exit 23. You head north on US 9 through the town center, crossing the Schroon River along the way(which is the boundary between the Towns of Lake George and Warrensburg). The beginning of NY 28 is about 3 miles north of the Northway off of US 9 on the north side of Warrensburg. Warrensburg is a pretty big Adirondack town that is open all year round. It has enough shopping for the basic necessities of life, like a supermarket, as well as some good restaurants, gift and specialty stores. It is home to a lot of horseback riding establishments, and there is a circular state scenic by-way route named after it, "The Dude Ranch Trail". This route can be accessed in downtown Warrensburg off of US 9 and follows NY Route 418 west to Stony Creek, where it becomes a county route, then it winds back towards Lake George and loops back again to Warrensburg.

The stretch of NY 28 in the Town of Warrensburg is a very good piece of road for driving and scenery, that follows the Hudson River north-west. It is posted at 55 mph all through the town from the start of the route at US 9. Glen is a small hamlet west of the bridge on the Hudson River. It is an access point for rafters and other river users but the nice little Warren County river access lot (on the west side on Glen-Athol Road) has now been posted private property by a local merchant. It is also where NY 28 crosses into the Town of Johnsburg from Warrensburg and crosses the Upper Hudson RR tracks also.
